Help for the Wavelens Android app

Contact

Email wavelensapp@gmail.com. Replies usually within a couple of days. If something is misbehaving, send a diagnostics report from the app (More → Share diagnostics): it contains the app and Android versions, scanner health and your alert settings, and you see every line before it goes.

Bugs and feature requests can also go to github.com/pmcbrien/wavelens/issues.

Common questions

The app says "scanning" but finds almost nothing. Check that Location Services is on in Quick Settings — Android withholds all Bluetooth scan results without it, even with permission granted. The status line says so when this is the cause.

The scanner keeps restarting. Some phones stop delivering Bluetooth results after a while; the watchdog cycles the radios and backs off if that doesn't help. If the event log shows "BLE scan failed: scanning too frequently", leave it — Android lifts that itself after about thirty seconds.

My own earbuds or car keep alerting. Open the device card and tap Mine. It is fingerprinted and never alerts again, even after its address changes.

Too many "following" alerts. They are off by default; if you turned them on, the threshold is five spots 300 m apart over twelve minutes with a drop-out in between. The FOLLOWING tag shows on the list regardless.

A tracker alerted in a parking lot. Find My, Find My Device and SmartThings Find frames come from earbuds, watches and powered-off phones too. By default a tracker alerts only once it has been with you for three minutes, or is riding or following; raise that under Setup → Alerts if you still see noise.

Does the app drain the battery? Scanning all three radios continuously costs roughly what navigation does. Turn off cellular or classic Bluetooth under Setup → Radios if you don't need them.

Sideloaded the APK — can I move to the Play version? Yes, if your APK is from October 2026 or later (it's signed with the same key). Older debug builds must be uninstalled first.

Your data

Wavelens has no account and no servers. Everything it records lives on your phone; see the privacy policy.

Deleting your data

There is no account to delete and nothing held by us. To remove the app's data from your phone: Setup → Clear history, Clear alert log, Remove all rules and clear flags, and delete sessions; More → Trips and Tails → Delete all. Or uninstall the app, which removes everything at once.
